Each spring, as a portion of the "Warsaw Weekend", the Warsaw Sports Marketing Center will host the annual student-run charity 3-on-3 basketball tournament, "The James H. Warsaw 3-on-3 Classic: Shooting Out Parkinson's Disease," to raise money to help find a cure for Parkinson's Disease.
Warsaw Classic Home Page James H. Warsaw (on the right in the middle picture above), the founder of the Warsaw Sports Marketing Center, is recognized the world over for his pioneering work in the sports marketing industry. His family-owned firm, Sports Specialties, was the first licensee of the NFL and was the world's largest sports-licensed headwear company during Warsaw's tenure as president from 1981-93. In late 1993, Warsaw was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. Through his association with the National Parkinson Foundation (NPF) and Cure Parkinson's Program (CPP), and his selection to the NPF Alliance Leadership Committee, Warsaw is dedicated to finding the earliest possible cure for the disease. He has worked the tirelessly in Washington D.C., as an activist and lobbyist for the Mo Udall Act. Through his efforts, Warsaw has inspired many to support additional federal funds for Parkinson's research . Following the inspiration of Mr. Warsaw, students of the Warsaw Center established the 3-on-3 Classic to help in this fight to find a cure for Parkinson's disease. With constant effort and support from people like Mr. Warsaw and the students of the Warsaw Center, a cure for Parkinson's will hopefully be found in the near future. Event History: The 7th Annual James H. Warsaw Classic took place on April 24th, 2004, at McArthur Court on the University of Oregon's Campus in Eugene, OR. Once again, a successful tournament with nearly fifty participating teams, the Warsaw Classic proved to be a valuable and enjoyable experience for all involved. All proceeds from this basketball tournament will be given to the Cure Parkinson's Program to move toward finding a cure for Parkinson's disease. The student-organized event has generated the support of local businesses and media coverage by local television stations and newspapers. |
